When Satan speaks he tells lies. He speaks from a voice of no authority. God made you special. You are not a Nobody. You are chosen.
You Are Not A Nobody – You Are Chosen!
There is a battle going on. I’m not talking about a battle between good and evil. We know that exists. Satan is real, and all he needs to do is drop a few of his impugning comments.
This battle is of a different variety. A battle that weighs us down so heavily we often can’t sleep at night. One that sucker punches us in the gut each bright new day.
It leaves us with more than black and blue marks. We offhandedly wear this allotment as an invisible badge of shame.
Distracting, redirecting, and harmful.
If we are truly honest with ourselves, we feed into it; changing plans based on its direction. We run to avoid its damage. It can ruin our day, our thoughts, and if we let it, it can tear us from relationships. We fear others can see through us to the root cause.
We say things like: “I am just a stay at home mom,”, “I am just an accountant,” or worse, “I am a nobody.”
These are not made-up phrases. They are real, and hundreds to thousands of people internally question their worth daily. It is downright heartbreaking. I feel I need to get on my soapbox and tell you how loved you are. Hear me screaming “YOU ARE WORTHY.” God promises in His word; He has GREAT plans for your life (Jeremiah 29:11).
Even before you were born, He knew how special you would be. You are chosen. Your value and worth rest in Him; the creator of all the heavens and earth, and not the inhabitants of this world.
Can you see how this one word can transfigure who God created us to be? Unworthiness.
God hurts when we hurt.
We pray to Him, seeking acceptance of our behavior based on what we think to be true. Many prayers may resemble these;
“Dear God, thank you for this new morning. Please help me to eat better today. I just want to feel comfortable in my clothes again. But really I want to be skinnier and look like ______. Then maybe I can find a man who will love me. We can have kids and have a family to love. Because I never felt loved growing up.”
“Heavenly Father, WOW! You are so amazing. I pray you show up today and help me with my words. I want to come across to my coworkers as smart. Please show them I am ready to be assigned to this next big project. Then maybe you can help me become a manager. This way I can show everyone who said I couldn’t be successful that I am.”
“Dear God, thank you for this day. Please give me a better-paying job. This way I can get a bigger house and a better car because all my friends have these things.”
Did you notice the common thread in these prayers?
They are all one-sided! If you dig deeper, each prayer is seeking to be better considering other’s successes or what they perceive to be as successful. Each searching for self-worth in a secular run world.
Unworthiness
It dispels lies, transforms us into beings of fear, regret, and pushes us to reach goals that are not for God’s glory. It destroys our joy, and alters the value we place in ourselves.
Ultimately, it removes us and our focus away from God and from self-seeking behaviors. Then we wonder why we are suffering such internal pain.
When veils of unworthiness cover us, we search for meaning that can help validate that we matter. When we can’t find it, our inner critic gets to work discharging hurtful information.
Satan plants a seed. He not only lies, but he can use a truthful statement or event; to turn it around to break our spirits.
- The king of this earthly world (Satan) will say you are alone.
- The king of this earthly world will say you are not good enough.
- The king of this earthly world will say you are just a nobody.
- The king of this earthly world would make you feel like you have to compete for ______ (job promotion, love, affection, and attention).
It is a battle, a ruthless one, and the enemy will fight hard against us.
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” – 1 Peter 5:8-9
But the King of Heaven will tell you MUCH more. He didn’t die on the cross for just a “nobody”, He died on the cross for you.
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” – Matthew 13: 45-46.
My dear friends in Christ. We must always be alert and stand guard! This is one of Satan’s top ploys. He drops well-thought-out distractions into your mind and tries to convince you that God is withholding blessings from you.
Satan wants you to believe you are only worth what society views as success. He used the same tactic as with Eve in the Garden of Eden. In telling Eve that God was withholding knowledge and truth from her, but, in fact, he distorted the very truth. Satan won Eve over and proved his success.
Why do you think he wouldn’t use the same tactic on you?
You may say… you are a nobody; a stay at home mom or an accountant. The King of Heaven is telling you, I have great plans for you.
You are chosen. You are more than the sum of what society believes to be successful. While we can not see the plans of the future, God does.
Success lies in the beholder of eternal life. GOD already tore down the veil for you. He broke it in two. He placed His hands out lovely for you to enter His Kingdom.
Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. – Proverbs 16:3
Remembering Joseph
I am sure you have heard this well-known story, “Joseph & The Coat of Many Colors.” His hateful brothers interrupted Joseph’s life. Looking back, Joseph ran into a series of obstacles.
They sold him into slavery; he moved from Canaan to Egypt, became Potipher’s slave, Potipher’s wife then lied about Joseph and they threw him in jail. Talk about feeling all alone.
They left him in jail for a few years and, during this time, he helped others interpret their dreams with God’s help. Eventually, summoned to interpret the pharaoh’s dream. Pharaoh was so impressed with Joseph he became second in command.
No other person held this high command other than the pharaoh himself. You see, eventually, his brothers were led to Egypt. Soon, all eleven brothers had to bow down before Joseph. The LORD was with Joseph, and he prospered. Even through those difficult times, God was in the midst, of creating great plans for Joseph’s life.
Again, God left us with many promises, but I must repeat Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
He has placed you where you need to be for his purpose. In everything you do… you do for him. Do it with a joyful heart. He will lead you to green pastures.
When the uproar of lies speaks to your soul, firmly undertake God’s spoken promises. You are worthy!
No matter what society may make you think and feel. Your worth will always lie with God. You are not a Nobody.
You are Chosen!
For God says: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6
Let me leave you with this prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank you for the blessings of each new day. We praise you, our Lord, in even the midst of confusion. For we stand firm in your word, believing you have great plans for our lives. We ask that you give us peace and joy as we walk through this time. May we take up the armor of God and surround ourselves in the truth of your word. As we surrender ourselves to you, show us the path that will give Glory to your will. In all this, we ask, in your name – Amen.
