Taking one giant step forward in faith. It isn’t easy. We love our comfort zones. With the smallest amount of trust, God will lead to extraordinary outcomes.
Taking One Giant Step Forward In Faith
Don’t you find it extremely hard to step out in faith when God is calling you forward? My answer: Yes, yes, and yes! I feel like it is a given. It can be very difficult to give up what we love doing, even when God is changing our plans.
Back in January, God started a shift in my life. Again, another embarrassing “but God” moment. For years, I have been wrestling with speaking from the stage versus only writing from the page. Writing is what I love. I get to do at home, in my pajamas, and with my favorite dark brew coffee in hand. Who wants to give that up?
It is embarrassing because I know for a fact God was calling me to move. AND I know He ALWAYS has my best interests in mind. You would think I would do it automatically. But I didn’t.
Wrestling with God’s Call
In Mark 16:15, Jesus gives us the great commission. He said to His disciples, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” At this time, there were many (MANY) people who had never heard about Jesus. In today’s world, many know His name, and still many do not have a personal relationship with Him.
So, this January, a friend from church approached me and asked if I would like to speak at a women’s retreat in April. My first thought, UGH! My second thought, I knew God was pushing me to say “yes”. Instead, I answered with a “Can you give me a week to pray about it?”.
My prayers that week consisted of “BUT GOD”…
– I don’t want to do this!
– You know I’d rather write.
– I am not ready to talk about my testimony.
While I can certainly write about Jesus by sharing His words, He has orchestrated in my heart on my website, and social media, God knows something I don’t. He knows the limitations of reach. He also knows the messages He prepared for me to speak to those ladies at the retreat. Embarrassing to say, that instead of doing what I knew I should have done in the first place, I argued with God. It was about me, and not about reaching out to others.
And here I am speaking for Jesus.
Responding to God’s Call
Once I got my act straightened out, I did a thing. I spoke at a women’s retreat, not once, but three times. Yes, three separate messages. AND here is what happened. I eventually said, “yes” out of obedience to God, but I also said “yes” to God every time I sat in the library to write those talks, “Lord, I can’t do this without you. I said, yes! Now I need you to do the rest.”
Guess what? He did!! It was amazing how He provided words and ideas on the topics I was to speak about. And friend, you know what else? It only took one giant trusting step, and then the Lord did the rest.
Taking that Giant Step
If God is asking you to move outside of your comfort zone, DO IT!!! He is simply asking you to make one move forward. He has the rest covered. Funny, how my testimony includes how God took my “But God” arguments and He turned them around to “But God” changed my life. He did it again. He continually shapes and shifts our perspectives.
If you’re stepping into new challenges, embrace the unknown! Don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Let God guide you, and bring your whole heart—even if it’s a little scared. Trust me, you’re not alone, and you’re more capable than you think!
Don’t let Satan fool you. God is still in the business of rescuing, redeeming, and renewing. Even if you consider yourself a mature Christian, God will take what we know and show us differently. God is such a good, good Father!!
Here’s what I learned: you don’t have to have it all together to step into something new. Growth happens in the struggle. Sometimes, it’s about showing up, outmatched and all, and learning as you go. That’s where the magic is. God doesn’t promise that everything will be easy. He doesn’t hand us a roadmap, but He does ask us to walk in faith and to lean on Him and each other.
Let’s Pray Together
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank you for your never-changing hope. We thank you for always knowing what is best for us. Lord, remind us of your promises as we step out in faith and trust you with all things. We know you are a good, good Father. Help us to recognize when we are placing ourselves first and not you. Today, we lay all our worries, doubts, and anxieties at your feet. For we know you can do more than we could ever ask or imagine.
In your precious name, Jesus – Amen!
