God’s grace can impact our lives in ways we never thought of. It is comforting knowing we can always go to Him for an outpouring of His love.
A Recipe Topped with God’s Grace – When We Need It Most
Food lights up my senses. It brings me the warmth needed on a cold day and the spiciness my tongue craves. I rather cook a good meal than go out and eat one. I know this may sound a bit unusual, but you can’t be an explorer of flavors without learning the ropes at home.
In the past, I have created some not-so-great meals, including a Caesar salad dressing that Caesar himself would be greatly disappointed in. But the one meal, which stands the test of time in our home, is a traditional plate of spaghetti topped with homemade sauce.
Through food, this plate of spaghetti, to be exact, God showed me His grace. Unmerited, sparked by unconditional love, and freely given. I love how He intimately speaks to each of us. We are all different, yet desire to grow closer to Him.
God knows exactly how to wake us up through the things we love.
God Knows What We Need
You see, before I sat in front of this deliciously comforting plate of spaghetti, I found myself struggling. Struggling to find my purpose. I waxed and waned through not knowing whether or not I should quit my job as a full-time RN.
We worked hard as a family, cutting back and honoring Him with our spending to be able to leap into this next right step.
And it didn’t happen overnight. It took years. Seven long years of counting our pennies and using coupons faithfully before we got the go-ahead for me to become a full-time stay-at-home mom. Even as God’s grace answered our family’s prayers, I sat questioning Him. Is this truly the right move? Didn’t you create me to help others as a nurse? Will there be a better job for me in the future?
Deep down inside, I believed this next step was God’s calling in my life. Yet, somehow, instead of humbly receiving His gift of grace, I decided to question Him instead. It was the invisible line of uncertainty I saw and not His grace-filled love.
God’s Grace Changes You
Today, tomorrow, last year, this year, and at this very moment, our focus flows like my favorite plate of spaghetti. The noodles are imperfectly messy, but a delight to the eyes. They are scrambled and intertwined, just like our daily thoughts.
We can go from positive thinking to negative thinking all at the same moment. It is amazing how this happens.
We carry the weight of the what-ifs, the circumstances of tomorrow, and the sorrows of yesterday all in the same string of thoughts. Our brains run on overdrive and our hearts thirst for the presence of God.
Today, Jesus is asking us to do ONE THING – to focus on Him. Whatever you are doing right now, commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans (Proverbs 16:3).
Let’s come to the table with our messy plates of spaghetti ready to be topped with His grace.
LET’S PRAY
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for setting in motion opportunities for us to grow closer to you. Help us to delight in all your ways, as we walk faithfully by your word. We know you have set us apart for a plan and purpose. I pray you remind us that you are presently working in our lives, even when we don’t see it. As we surrender ourselves to you, show us the path that will give Glory to you, and cover us with your abounding grace.
In all this, we ask, in your name, Jesus – Amen.
