Bible Scriptures for Worry – Centering our Focus
(Scroll to the bottom for Scriptures on worry)
I consider my sisters in Christ to be a safe haven for my words and thoughts. They listen, give Godly encouragement and advice, but in the midst of these wonderful friendships lies a different kind of friend. A friend that I secretly dislike to be around, but choose to keep close at hand.
That very act may surprise you. And I am almost certain that you may have a very similar friend who shares familiar personality traits. Let me explain.
This friend abruptly knocks on your door at the most inconvenient times and certainly doesn’t understand the value of quiet time. When she makes surprise visits at unannounced times, your day often turns sour with worry. When you speak of great news going on in your life, she then becomes an instant naysayer. Confiding in her makes her light up with excitement. She quickly grabs her coffee and excitedly pulls up a chair to listen. Expecting to receive words of encouragement in a time of need turns into words that only support your need to doubt uncertainty.
Comfort and reassurance of God’s word are not mentioned in your conversations with this friend.
I know you are probably thinking; “Who is this friend? And please, it is time to kick this terribly toxic friend to the curb!” AMEN! Let’s do it!!
But…you see she is a very talented friend.
She is clever in a way like no other friend is skilled. She reveals the facts as they are seen and makes you believe that they are undeniably true. Because of her, your thoughts are surrounded by the “what ifs” and the apprehension to move forward.
In just a few moments, you can go from being excited for the future to being paralyzed from progressing onward.
True friends don’t impede your progress
Jesus Christ wants nothing more than to have an open relationship with you. When you feel uncertain, doubt, or worry, he wants you to come to Him and not to rely on outside sources.
But, like most of us do, we over-analyze our options, weighing the pros and the cons. When we break our lines of communication with our Creator, we give way to having visits with our harmful friend.
Now, by chance, did you figure out who this terrible friend might be? You got it! The one and only, terrorizer of thoughts, Satan.
God’s plans will always prosper
When we question the direction of our lives or the paths we must take, how easy is it to forget that God knows the plans to make you prosper, to give you hope, and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
As earthly beings, never perfect, we are feeble-minded. I find that constant reminders of His promises are necessary; otherwise, we fall into the trap of misconception.
In the beginning
Soon after God created the most perfect version of earth, there was a knock on the door. Eve, longing to know more, welcomed a visitor in. When she greeted this new “friend”, she questioned her reality and her mind was opened to being deceived.
Let’s go back to Genesis 3:1-4 and study the word. “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’? The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.” – “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
Eve second-guessed
Satan, in the form of a serpent, spoke to Eve cunningly. He knew that God spoke directly to Adam and told him to stay away from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:15-17). Now when the serpent spoke to Eve he conveniently removes all the reminders of God’s blessings and highlighted the one item that was forbidden.
Eve’s vulnerability allowed her to settle in and ponder the thoughts that Satan spoke. She never questioned Satan, but she questioned God. She at no time said; “Hold on, let me ask God.” Considering He was the one who forbid them from eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the first place.
Eve would have learned that God’s “no” was done to protect them from harm.
Promises to live by
The temptations of this world can cause confusion, anxiety, and worry. We are so lucky that once we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are never walking alone again.
Jesus empowers us to be not only just victors, not just conquerors, but more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) because He is alive in us.
“Greater is HE who lives in us, than he who lives in this world” – 1 John 4:4
When we have the confidence to walk with Christ in every situation, we know that HE will work all THINGS (not just some, but all) for those who have been called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
Dear sister, you are being called to serve God. It is time to walk confidently knowing His written promises will always remain true. Do not let the things of this world conform you into questioning your purpose.
3 Simple Steps To Stop Worry From Taking Over Your Mind
How to stop this Satan from delivering unwanted messages:
- Call on God – Freely offer God who you are and your desires. He will never disappoint you. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God.
- Go into His word. – Fill your heart and mind with His assurances. When we trust our own control over life’s situations we step away from God’s voice. Spend time with your heavenly father daily. (Proverbs 2:6) Spend time memorizing these bible scriptures for worry (below).
- Call on a friend – Good Christian friends make us better people. They guide us when we’ve gone off track, help us to make Godly choices, teach us about ourselves, and keep us focused on Christ.
Let’s Pray Together
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank you that your love, peace, and grace will always remain constant — the same as yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Today we choose you and not the worries that burden us. We have decided to give you all the glory and control over our lives resting in your everlasting peace. For we know that when we worry, we give a piece of our attention to Satan, and allow him to take pleasure in maintaining a restraint against your great plan in our life. We ask that you give us the ability to discern his negative thoughts and allow us to STAND up, and speak the truth with your divine authority. Help us to recognize that discomfort can be an opportunity for growth and to rejoice knowing you are in control.
We ask this in your precious name – Amen!
